Adult Football Matches Roundup

Last Sunday was a beautiful day for the return of Adult Football League action.

AFL1 Seniors

Seniors footballers started their campaign against Whitehall Colmcille. The first 10 mins of play was a cagey affair with both teams playing very defensively.

The first score came after 11 mins with a well taking point by Oisin Grady. We followed up with points from Jack Lundy and Com Fitzpatrick. We missed a few goal chances before the first came with an excellent four man movement and the ball finished to the net by Luke Cullen. Whitehall got their first score , a point on the 20th minute. We finished the half with points from Dave Devereux, Sean Parker and Fearghal Duffy to leave the half time score 1-6 to 0-2.

The second half started promising for Whitehall, who playing with breeze scored the first two points. However we responded strongly with 2 quick points and goal number two for Luke Cullen. We traded a brace of points and the game ended 2-10 to 0-7. Management will take a lot of positives from the game especially how we defended. Like all teams including inter county teams at this time of the year, there were however a lot of mis passes and unforced turnovers. Best for BSJ were Sean Parker, Colm Fitzpartrick, Dave Devereux, Luke Cullen and Liam Smith.

Next up is a trip to the Saggart for round 2 on Sunday 3rd March ,throw in 10-15am

AFL 4. Intermediate

Inters first league game was away to Geraldine Morans. In a much changed starting 15 from last year the team found it hard to get into the game in the first half. Playing against a strong breeze, and against a much more physical opposition, points from Eoghan Seoige, Sam Tully, Conor Budds and two from Joey Quirke left them trailing 1-7 to 5 points at halftime. A number of switches in the backs at halftime tightened up the defence and some great points from Sam Tully and Joey Quirke (5 points ) brought them to within two points. However despite the much improved second half performance they still trailed by 2 points at the final whistle. Final score Geraldine Morans 1-10, BSJ 0-11.

Next up is a home match V St Peregines, Sunday 3rd March at 10-15am

AFL 8. Junior A

It was a very disappointing return to action for the Junior A team in their home match V Parnells. Despite leading by 5 points at Ht they were beaten on ascoreline of 1-12 to 3-10. Management will be looking for big improvements for their next match V Kilmacud Crokes on Sunday 3rd March at 10.15am in Silverpark.

AFL 11. Junior B

The Junior Bs opened their campaign with an impressive victory over our neighbours Kilmacud Crokes under the new Player Management Team of the Gillick brothers, Tony and Johnny.

There were 4 graduates from the minor ranks that brought the average age of the team comfortably into the early 40s and it didn’t take long for them to make their mark. Niall Gleeson got the first of his 3 goals after 12 minutes followed by points from Evan Byrne and Cael Meagher. Not to be outdone the veterans chipped in and points from Shane McGonagle, DJ Corbett, Cian Hallinan, Brian Monaghan and a flurry of scores from Colly O’Donnell (13 pts in all including frees ) put the result beyond doubt. There was a fine point from fellow debutant Eoin Madigan in the second half either side of Gleeson’s two goals to make for a great start to the season. Final score BSJ 3-25 , Kilmacud Crokes 1-5

Next up is a home match against Lucan in Loreto at 3pm on Sunday 3rd March.
