Adult Football Match Reports.
The big snow on Friday was not going to stop activities as 30 volunteers took to the shovels to clear the AWP and ensure 8 games took place on Saturday and Sunday including 2 adult football matches. On a beautiful Sunday all our 3 teams in action won with the Junior A game postponed.
Seniors AFL 1
The Seniors took on St Marys in Finnstown beautiful AWP. Marys have a history of great battlers and is this game they showed it all. The first score went to BSJ when a great movement ended in a point by Ben Millist. An Oisin Grady free was followed by plenty of positive attacking movements by BSJ. Marys got the next score, a point before Liam Fenton got the first of our 4 first half goals. Marys got a goal followed up with another point to leave the score 1-2 each after 10 mins. We then hit a 10 mins purple batch when we scored 2-2 without reply with well worked goals coming from Dave Devereux and Colm Fitzpatrick. We finished the half strongly when Donnacha Carey buried the ball to the back of the net. Half time score 4-7 to 2-5.
In the second half Marys continued to battle away and cut the deficit to 3 pts before we went on a bit of a scoring spree with points by Ben Millist and great points by substitutes Arron Bradshaw and Tom Aherne (2) to finish winners on a scoreline of 4-12 to 2-11. One of the positives from the game is that we had 11 different scorers. Best for BSJ were Ian O'hEithir, Liam Smith, Dave Devereux and Joe Sweeney.

Intermediate AFL 4
A very young inter team took the field against a more experienced St Peregrines. So it transpired in the opening 5 minutes when Peregrine's had scored 1-1. However 3 of the next 4 points went to St Johns to get them back into the game. The points came from Joey Quirke, Sam Tully and Eoghan Seoige. 4 more points, including a great point from John Clear, before half time left Johns leading 0-7 to 1-3 at halftime. Playing into a stiff breeze in the second half Johns dominated the play for the first 15 minutes but kicked a number of disappointing wides while only scoring 2 points, including a great point from Jack Long. This allowed the opposition to claw back the lead and go 2 points up with minutes to go. However another point from Sam Tully followed by a great goal from Joey Quirke in injury time put Johns back in charge. John Clear sealed the win with a point from a free. Final score BSJ 1-13 Peregrine's 1-10. Scorers for St Johns were John Clear(3), Joey Quirke (1-3), Eoghan Seoige (3), Sam Tully (2), Jack Long (2). In addition to the above Jack Kennelly, Noise Cronin and Ruairi Kennedy were best for St Johns.

Junior B AFL 11
Our Junior B team made it 2 from 2 with a fine performance and victory over a strong Lucan Sarsfields side on the All Weather Pitch on Sunday afternoon.
The first half was nip and tuck and points from Brian Monaghan, Cael Maher and Colly O’Donnell meant the home side led at the break by 4 point. Billy Davern failed to register a score for his famous spreadsheet and was duly substituted.
Some clever kicking into the corners and over the sideline by DJ Corbett meant Lucan struggled to get out of their half which led to goals in quick succession by Colly O’Donnell and Brian Monaghan (an rud is annamh is iontach). There was points by Cian Hallinan, Colly O’Donnell and DjCorbett and those coupled with some great defending from Shane Duffy, Dara Quinn and Ciaran McCabe put the game beyond doubt. The final scoreline was 2-17 to 0-13 with top scorers Colm O Donnell (1-8) Brian Monaghan(1-3) and Cian Hallinan (0-4)
