Senior Hurling

League Match away to Naomh Barrog Wednesday April 30th.

The Senior Hurlers travelled across to Pairc Barrog for a midweek league match vs Barrogs. We were on the back foot after conceding an early goal but settled down with some well taken points to go in at the break 1-09 to 0-08 in arrears. The second half was nip and tuck before a brilliant goal by Cody Graham brought us back to 2 points in arrears. The goal had the desired affect and we started to get on top and coming up to full time got our noses in front only for Barrog to equalise as the 60 minutes were up. Both teams had chances to win in in added time but the game ended in a draw at 1-16 apiece.

League Match at home to Scoil Ui Chonaill Saturday May 4th.

We had an early start for our home match vs Scoil and were slow out of the blocks and trailed for most of the 1st half. A goal just before half time left us 2 points behind on a scoreline of 1-06 to 0-11 at the break. The lads regrouped at half time and a strong 2nd half performance with 2 further goals led to a comfortable final score of 3-17 to 0-18. With goals from Niall O Doherty and Tom Aherne and a good spread of contributors to the points tally it rounded off a good week with 3 out of 4 points secured in the league

Next up for the Seniors is a home match vs St Judes on Saturday May 18th.

Junior A Hurling

Ballinteer St Johns 0-28 Fingallians 2-12

It was successful week for Ballinteer St John's Junior A side securing 3 points in 6 days with a victory and a draw.

Their first win of the season came last Tuesday where Fingallians succumbed to the formidable Dublin 16 outfit in a 10-point deficit defeat.

Ballinteer got off to an impressive start with early points coming from Briain McGeary, Niall O'Doherty and 18-year-old Sean Mulligan who put in an impressive performance covering box to box in the midfield.

On frees for BSJ was Pádraic Ó'hEithir, who demonstrated excellence off of the deck with 12 frees from 12 by the end of the game.

Tough defending from wing back Brian Quinn accompanied by corner back Ethan Bonner to his rear along with Ronan Collins and Stephen Mulvaney proved significant for the home Side to hold their lead entering the break.

The domination continued, as Ballinteer furthered their lead with the excellence of Daire Ronayne, beating his man to each and every ball, converting every opportunity he got.

Ewen Well's also proved his abilities in the half forward with three points from play, two of which coming in the second half that assisted BSJ in securing all two points on the day.

Contributing to BSJ's impressive 28-point scoreline was Briain McGeary (0-1), Brain Quinn (0-1), Liam O'Suillivan (0-2), Sean Mulligan (0-2), Niall O'Doherty (0-3), Ewen Wells (0-3), Daire Ronayne (0-3) and sharpshooter, Pádraic Ó'hEithir (0-13) 13 of which coming from frees.

With the final score line reading 0-28 to 2-12 in favour of Ballinteer, the two late consolation goals from the visitors were deceiving factors to what was almost a near perfect performance from the Junior A's.

Ballinteer St Johns 1-12 Naomh Barróg 0-15

The Junior A hurling's second encounter of the week took place on Sunday out in Kilbarrack where they shared spoils with Naomh Barróg with a final score that read 1-12 to 0-15.

The only goal of the game came from our very own Daire Ronayne who's been in flying form up front for the club since his return to BSj this year. An over the shoulder effort from wing forward Niall O'Doherty fell short of the end line, where Ronayne was waiting, who went on to beat his man and slot the sliotar in the back of the net.

Centre forward, Pádraic O'hEithir was accurate once again for Johns with 6 points from frees from outfield.

Ballinteer gave away plenty of soft frees throughout the first half that allowed for Naomh Barróg to keep the scoreboard ticking and their heads above water. Ballinteer entered the half four points ahead, with it all to play for in the next 30 minutes.

True to form, Ewen Well caused plenty of trouble in the midfield, scoring points, making blocks and earning frees all through the second half.

Solid as a rock, the 6 at the back and Paddy Buckley in nets, stood tall in defense for BSJ, maintaining a clean sheet on the day and closing down the Barróg offence as best they could.

Persistent, the home side levelled the scoring, making the final 10 minutes a tennis like dog fight, as both sides exchanged point after point on either end of the field keeping it neck and neck.

Into additional time, Barróg salvaged a one-point lead off the back of a free with 20 seconds to go. Allowing for one last play, a puck out from Paddy Buckley made its way up field to of Pádriac ÓhEithir, who in dramatic fashion, off his left side from the left sideline, off balance struck gold over the homeside's blackspot, levelling the score to beat the buzzer.

Next up for the Junior As is a home match on Sunday May 19th vs Erins Isle.

Junior B Hurling

League Match at home to St Maurs on Tuesday April 29th.

The Junior B Hurlers had a comfortable win at home to Maurs in Marlay Park to get back to winning ways in the league. Leading by 0-08 to 0-05 at half time the defence kept Maurs at bay in the 2nd half and we went on to win by 0-17 to 0-06. Conor Murphy contributed 0-12 from frees and play and Seanie Lane came off the bench to chip in 2 pints from play. Eoghan Coffey (0-02) and Sean Murphy (0-01) also got on the scoreboard.

League Match away to Setanta on Sunday May 5th.

With only 14 players available we weren’t looking forward to an away match at Setanta but the lads put in a great performance to make it 2 wins in the space of a week. Playing up the hill we were all square at half time on a scoreline of 0-08 to 1-05. With strong performances all over the pitch we started the 2nd half very well and with goals from Joe Sheehan and an own goal we ran out comfortable winners by 2-14 to 1-07.

Next up for the Junior Bs in the league is a home match vs Round Towers Lusk on May 19th.
