Adult Football Championship Matches  Reports

Last weekend saw 5 adult teams in championship  action and we had 4 wins and 1 narrow defeat

Seniors: Seniors A Championship

Our group has St Sylvester , Ballyboden St Endas and Ballymun. Our first outing was against Syls who were one of only  3 teams to beat us in the League. It was a lovely but very warm Parnell Pk.

The  first score was to Syls in the 4th minute. Eoin Fitzpatrick  equalised with a good point . Following a great turnover and a great break  Luke Cullen kicked  a  point. Poor defending  gave Syls a score a goal chance which they took in the eight minute . We hit back  immediately with a point by Joe Sweeney. We were back level in the 15th minute following a free. A great move left Luke Cullan with a great one and one chance  with Syls keeper but the keeper made a great save. However the goal did come  a minute later when Donnacha Carey hard press got a turnover, laid it  off to Luke Breathnach who carried at pace  and  blasted the ball into the corner of the net. A few minutes later came another goal chance and again the  Syls keeper brough off a great save although  David Deveraux pointed  on the rebound leaving it  1-6 to 1-1 after 20 mins. Syls kicked the next 3 of the 4 points to bring it back to 2 before Luke Breathnach kicked an outstanding point from play to leave the  HT score 1-8 to 1-4.

Syls got the first score of the second half , a point from a free. Seamus Fenton got our first point 2  minutes later. The next score was an excellent score when we turned over Syls on our 20 metre line, moved the ball quickly to Donnacha Carey who  kicked  a good point. Syls brought it back to 2 with 2 points on the trot. Space in the Syls  backline became more available and  Dan O leary slotted over from 30 metres. Another point from a free put us 4 up on the 45th minute . On the 50th minute we got our second goal when some quick hand movements saw the ball end up with Donnacha Carey who rounded his man and planted the ball into the net despite the best effort of the Syls  keeper . Another great turnover by Donnacha  Carey  in our backline saw the ball moved quickly with Oisin Grady fisting over the bar . The  last score of the game from the man who scored our first point , Eoin Fitzpatrick.  Final score BSJ 2-14 Syls 1-10.

It was a  satisfactory display against a limited Syls team and we can  now go into our second round match against Ballymun in a positive mood. Best for BSJ were Ian O Heither, Ben Millist, Nicky Deveroux, Eoin Fitzpatrick , Donnacha Carey and Luke Breathnach .

Next up V Ballymun. Saturday 24th August In Parnell Pk at 3-30.

Inters: Junior 1 Championship.

The Jnters started their championship campaign against St Judes in Marlay Pk on Sunday morning. We were 3 points up before Judes got their first score, a point from a free in the 5th minute. We then hit 2 points from play ,both coming from Joey Quirke after great movements between Joey, Jack Long and the rejuvenated Shane Mc Cann. With Shane directing operations at number 11 and delivering quality ball into the full forward line, it was only a matter of time before  the goals arrived . The first came when we won a long kick out  and  with a good delivery into Jack Long he  buried it to the back of the net. We then got the second goal when Naoise Cronin made a great turnover in his own half, carried the ball into Jude’s half before laying off to Joey Quirke who  finished off the movement. Indeed Naoise was involved in the next movement and when  his blistering shot was saved by the keeper he blasted the rebound over the bar . We went in at HT 2-8 to 0-2 up having played with the wind.

The start of the second half saw Joey Quirke hit 2 excellent points off his left. With the full backline well marshalled by Dermo Kennedy and Cormac O Dwyer, Judes only response was 2 frees in the next 15 mins. Durning that time we missed 3 clear cut goal chances and we had to wait until the 15th minute for the next score  , a point by Joey Quirke. In the 20 minute we scored our third goal. It involved a great movement, with Michael O Cronin delivering  a long ball into Conor Budd, who gave the return  to the hard running Cronin who buried it into  the corner . Some great points followed from Micheal O Cronin and Jack Long. The third goal came from Eoghan Seoighe . With Sam Tully coming on after a period of injury, he was involved immediately in the action ,laying off to Jack long for a point and then his trade mark side footed point from 35 metres . Final score BSJ 4-16 St Judes 0-6

A comprehensive win which management will be happy with. Excluding  a barren period of 10 mins in the second half we were very dominant throughout .Best for BSJ  were Peter O Curry who pinned all his kick outs, Dermo Kennedy who showed all his experience, Cormac O Dwyer, the hard working  Naoise Cronin , Shane Mc Cann , Joey Quirke and Jack Long.

Next match is V Kilmacud Crokes { it’s the third year in a row we have met our neighbours) ,Sunday 25th August ,Pairc de Burca at 11-00

Junior A: Junior 2 Championship

The Junior A team made the trip to Pairc Barrog for their Sunday morning opening championship clash. In the league match against the same opposition we ran out winners by 9 points, so we travelled with high expectations.

The first half was a cagey affair and we went in at HT only a point up on a scoreline of 0-6 to 1-2
Our fitness and quick ball movement told in the 2nd half as we pulled away. Everyone worked hard and the subs made an impact especially the younger lads Rían Coote, Cillian Gibbons and Joe Woulfe who got a point The  more experienced Cathal McGarrigle came on and got 2 points. Mark Erdis always a threat, got a point and made the penalty. Lughaidh Lynch got 1-4, the goal coming  from the penalty. The final score was 1-14 to 1-4 with us limiting Barrog to just 2 points in the second half  .
Gavin Fahy, Matthew Priestley, Danny Fanning and  Eoin Walsh also stood out for BSJ.

Junior C: Junior 5 Championship

Due to the increasing playing numbers an additional adult team was entered in the Junior 5 championship. This was the first time in 14 years that we have fielded a 5th team in adult football.

The BSJ team comprised a great mix of players from Jun A, Jun B and Minor. They faced a daunting first round task against a Raheny side that won the Division 9 league, dropping only 3 points in the process. Since the team has never trained together it showed in the first 15 mins when lots of passes went astray and we were turned over too often having worked hard to win possession from a more physical Raheny team .However we kept fighting and a number of great saves by Nathabn Lhuiller kept us in the game. Up the other end we created a number of goal scoring  chances due to strong runs from James Bates but did not take them    BSJ trailed by 4 on a scoreline of 1-8 to 1-4  at the break with the goal coming from Conor Browne .

The second half saw a very determined BSJ get back to within 2 points with points coming from James  Bates , Conor Browne and Tiernan Mc Donnell. However Raheny  scored a goal against the run of play. We kept battling on but a very experienced Raheny backline held out despite our best efforts. Final score BSJ 1-12 Raheny 2-12.

Best for BSJ were Nathan Lhuiller in goal , James Bates , Shane Sheridan , Conor Browne and Derek Reilly who came on in the second half .

Next up is away to O Tooles , date TBC

Junior B: Junior 6 Championship

Fresh from winning the Division 11 league the Junior B team faced St Annes who played in Division 10 league in the first round of the Junior 6 Championship .

Annes got the first score a point , before we got our first score, a goal from the pacey young Niall Glesson who  finished a bobbling ball  in the square to the net. We followed with  points from Collie O Donnell and a long range effort from Cian Hallinan. The score was 1-3 to 0-2 after 15 minutes. We kicked the next 5 points from play , from Cian Hallinan , Johnny Gillick , Collie O Donnell , and Eoin Byrne.  However it was not all one way traffic . Annes pressed hard and brought two outstanding saves from our keeper  Stephen Callaghan  . The last score  in the first half was an excellent point when Shane Mc Gonnigle delivered a long pass to Collie O Donnell to score. Half time score 1-11 to 0-3

Annes were quick off the mark in the second half with 2 points.  However Annes challenge faltered after that. Two points from play from Cian Hallinan and Collie O Donnell was followed by a goal in the 45th minute by Shane mc Gonigle to make the score 2-13 to 0-5. We made several substitutions including Mitch Moddy who came on and scored the third goal . The fourth goal  came  from Collie O Donnell to make him the top scorer. Final score BSJ 4-16 St Annes0-6

Best for BSJ were Stephen Callaghan in goal, Shane Holland who did a lot of tracking back, the ever present and hard working Ciaran Mc Cabe , Will Langgrell at centre back, Johnny Gillick at centre half forward , Niall Glesson, Cian Hallinan who kicked some excellent points from distance  and Collie O Donnell who was a nightmare for his marker .

Next up is away to Crumlin . Date and time TBC.
