Preparing and ready for battle
First Half
It was the second game of the division 6 minor league season for the ladies. Following the group pep-talk things got underway with a bang. Right from the start after 3 minutes Ana Feddis had BSJ ahead by a point, it only took a further 3 minutes for Lucan to draw one back, with Ava Shefflin after 10:00, had BSJ ahead again with a well worked point. Rebecca Leon, returned with her super woman cape fully repaired and pulled off some top saves. The defence were rock solid, each one of them Ciara Ryle, Robyn O’Dwyer, Niamh Tuomey, Maira McAlliffe, Leah Day,and Rebecca Keane who collectively prevented Lucan from getting anywhere near the goal after their one ant only score of the first half. The midfield warriors Ana Feddis and Beth O’Reilly did not give Lucan the chance to catch a breath and were dominant throughout. With Abi Coyne, Isobel O’Connell, and Ava Shefflin in the half forward line, their continuous attacking of the Lucan half back line was relentless. Gemme McCullough, Daisy McHugh and Eliie O’ Mahony, were hiding in the long grass to pounce at the drop of a hat. On the 27th minute of the first half, BSJ were unfortunate to lose the versatile services of Rebecca Keane, I have since been reassured by her mom that Rebecca has made a full recovery, thanks to a large box of McNuggets following the game. After a first half of constant battling, between both teams, the score was BSJ 0-2 Lucan 0-1.
Second Half
Changes were made at half time, and the girls brought on, Alannah Hedden, Rose Owens, Tess Casey, and Emily O’Toole seamlessly slotted onto the battlefield. The second half started with Lucan getting the opening point and things were level 6 minutes in. The BSJ warriors were having none of it, they saw read and hit Lucan with 2 goals (Ana Feddis and Gemme McCullough) and two points (Ana Feddis) in quick succession. BSJ were cruising led by the outstanding work rate of Ellie O’ Mahony. While wearing the number 13, must have covered every blade of grass on the pitch, twice over, not to mention the numerous blocks, tackles, turnovers and passes to keep the momentum going. On the 58th minute, Lucan hit BSJ with a goal, followed 3 minutes later by a point. The BSJ warriors, for the first time looked a little deflated and as they rallied the troops again were hit with a sucker blow, on the 63rd minutes Lucan scored their second goal.
The final score BSJ 2-4 Lucan Sarsfield 2-3.
Post match
Clearly from the performances of the ladies tonight, the behind-the-scenes magic of Síobhra Andrews and Isobel Cullen is beginning to take shape. Roll on the next battle.
