Adult Hurling and Minor: match reports for the weekend of 15th/16th April 2023.

Senior Hurling (AHL2)

Our senior hurling team (AHL2) beat Scoil Ui Chonaill on Saturday evening in Clontarf, 0-11 to 0-13, in a low scoring game with the outcome in the balance right to the end. It was a very physical and hard-fought game and BSJ were well up for the challenge. The win makes it three wins from three. Next game: Away v Sylvester’s Wednesday 26th April 7.15pm. Sylvester’s are 4th in the league table, one place behind us.

Junior A’s (AHL5)

This very young Jun A team enjoyed their 1st home match against Finbarr’s on Sunday morning. A slow start saw the lads 1-3 down after 15 minutes, but we dominated the next quarter to pull it back to 1-3 to 0-6 at the break.

Strong defensive performances from Ronan Collins, Andrew Aherne and Brian Mc Geery quelled the Finbarrs attack.

The 2nd half was very intense, but Ballinteer dominated most of the play, particularly through Ewan Wells and Rory Merriman in midfield, and started to pull away, with some good free taking from Padraic O’ hEithir and points from play from Fiachra Morrisey, Pat Steele, Turlough O’Brien and Cillian O’Gorman.

Barr’s didn’t lie down and battled the game back to a 1-point margin, but we pulled away to 3 again, the last being a sublime point from Kevin Mulcahy now in midfield. Cian Deignan had an outstanding 2nd half, mopping up everything that was landed down on the far wing.

With just minutes left Barrs had 3 attempts at goal from the 21m line, all of which were repelled by goalie, Paddy Buckley and the team.

Great win for Ballinteer by just 2 points in the end, but an enjoyable game for both sides and the spectators.

Next game: Away v Plunketts Tuesday 25th April 7.15pm. Plunketts are currently top of the league table.

Junior B (AHL8)

The junior B’s came out with a win in our division 8 match away to Setanta on Sunday 16th April. After a cagey start our lads got on top to leave us clear by halftime. Final score Setanta  0-3 to BSJ 2-11. Making it two wins from four.  Next game: Home v Crumlin Tuesday 25th April 7.15pm. Crumlin are in third position on the league table, just one place ahead of us, so this should be a cracking game.

Minor

Our minor hurlers have a home game v Judes this Sunday 23rd 11am. The lads are in division one which in itself is a great achievement. They’re playing a lovely style of hurling a credit to all those involved.
