Adult and Minor Hurling, 25th / 26th April 2023
Senior (AHL2)
A great win for our seniors on Wed. 26th, away to St.Sylvesters, 1-22 to 1-27. The long journey out to Malahide in heavy traffic was quickly forgotten when the ball was thrown in. A great performance by both teams. Sylvesters were 2 points up at halftime, 1-13 to 0-14. Conditions were tricky, the setting sun made it difficult at times to track the flight of the sliotar. A second half goal by Ewan Wells set the game up for a cracking finish. BSJ were only 1 point up with a minute of normal time to go, but 4 unanswered points and some resolute defending, saw BSJ win by 5 points. This was a 3rd v 4th clash. BSJ remain in 3rd place, behind Boden and Raheny but with a game in-hand. Next up a home clash with Thomas Davis: Put it in your diary! Next game: Home v Thomas Davis, Wed. 10th May.
Junior A Hurling (AHL5)
Our Junior A’s had a very difficult evening away v Plunketts on Tues 25th April. Plunketts are dominating the division. It was disheartening after the high of the previous game, but we’ll dust ourselves off and go again. Of note were some outstanding saves from Paddy Buckley and two great goals from Pat Steele. Next game; Home v Na Fianna, Tuesday 9thMay
Junior B Hurling (AHL8).
The Junior Bs came out with a win in our AHL8 match at home to Crumlin on April 25th. After an even start Crumlin pushed 3 points clear by the 20-minute mark but then our lads got on top to leave us leading at half time by 2-05 to 0-07 with goals from Sean Murphy and Conor Murphy. The lads battled away in the second half in a very competitive game and kept Crumlin at bay with a final scoreline of BSJ 3-07 to Crumlin’s 0-12 with a 2nd goal from Conor Murphy (who contributed 2-06 of total) to give us 3 league wins on the trot. The Management team were delighted with the commitment and effort of the lads. Next game: Away v Na Fianna, Tuesday 9th May
Minor A and B (Div.1 and Div.5)
A great win by our minor A hurlers this morning beating St Judes 2.22 to 2.8. Our lads came out of the blocks flying and after 12 minutes were 1.7 to no score up. Judes did come back in with a couple of points, but John's led 1.13 to 0.4 at half time. Ballinteer pulled clear in the 2nd half and eventually pulled away comprehensive winners. Best for St Johns were Eamon Naughton, Cillian Gibbons, Adam Bates, Dylan Bannan, Joe Reddin and Jack long.
Next game: Away v Whitehall, 7th May.
Our 2nd minor team played Faughs in Tymon. We lost 0.16 to 1.10 in a cliffhanger. Our lads were 5pts down at half time and fought back with a last-minute scramble which we did not get across the line to get a draw. Great displays by Jamie Leslie, Eoin Madigan, Sean Kelly and Oisin Daffy.
Next game: Home v Castleknock on 7thMay.
Thank you to Enda O’Dwyer for the match round up!
