Adult Hurling 23rd / 24th / 27th /28th May
Senior (AHL2)
24th May. BSJ currently in 3rd place, behind Raheny (top) and Ballyboden, and with a game in hand, took on Nh. Fionnbarra’s ona beautiful evening in Marlay Park. It was a very even game with only one point between the teams at halftime. Notable, was the amount of frees converted by Fionnbarra’s: a total of ten from a final score line of BSJ 1-21 to Nh.F 1-17. We never looked like we were in danger of losing, but a great goal by Aodhán Clabby eased the nerves. Next up the afore mentioned Raheny.
27th May. BSJ travelled to St.Anne’s Park for this first v third clash. The game was fairly even except for a ten-minute spell late in the first half, when Raheny scored 2-1 without reply. The halftime score was 3-11 to BSJ 0-10. We never recovered from that, but with a very depleted squad the lads fought hard and never dropped the heads. The final score was Raheny 3-21 to BSJ 0-17. Of note was the senior debut of Dylan Bannon, a class act. Next up Erins Isle away (Finglas) 7th June TI 7.30pm. Come along and support, as we look to secure a playoff position for promotion to Div.1 (EO’D)
Junior A (AHL5)
BSJ saw the visit of Whitehall to Marlay on the 23rd. Unfortunately, it proved to be a one-sided affair. All the damage was done in the first half. The second half was much more competitive, with only one point between the two teams, but it was all too late. With only the bare fifteen it was a difficult evening. A lot of key players either injured or away. Credit to the lads for battling to the end. The final score BSJ 0-7 to Wh 2-20. The depleted squad had repercussions for our game v Faughs a few days later, as we had to concede the game. Our next game is a crucial game v Civil Service in Marlay Park on Sunday 11th June TI 11am. Both teams are fighting to stay out of the relegation zone, so it should be a cracking game. Your support could make the difference! (EO’D)
Junior B (AHL8)
With reduced numbers of 17 Ballinteer St Johns 3rd senior team took on St Maurs out in Rush on the 23rd of May. It was nip and tuck for most of the first half with Joe Sheehan, Conor Murphy and John Cleary chipping in with points before Sean Murphy buried our 1st goal into the roof of the net. We led at half time by 1.07 to 0.5 We had strong performances all over the pitch and the lads kept Maurs at arm's length all through the 2nd half and a 2nd goal from Sean Murphy left us 6 points clear from where we saw the game out for a final scoreline of 2.12 to 0.11. This is the sixth win on the trot from this improving team, consolidating 3rd place in the table. This was followed up by a big win away to Clondalkin on the 28th May, 0-7 to BSJ 0-21. Next game at home v Crokes 11th June TI 11am. Come along and support. Junior A’s and B’s will be at home on the 11th. (KS)
