BSJ 5 17 Clann Mhuire 3 09

“The Magnificent 15”

Wednesday was beautiful warm sunny evening in the Naul. It was made for Gaelic football and the pitches were getting full use with the Clann Mhuire senior men playing on one pitch and their senior ladies on the other.  I suspect Michael Cusack and the gang were looking down very happy with this scene. Dreams can become reality. The BSJ coaches were also happy after this game. Yes, the result was good, but they were more impressed with the quality and style of play. It’s what they have been working towards over the last few months.

The game kicked off at a fast pace with both teams scoring when in possession. There was only a point or two in it for the first 20 mins. BSJ then began scoring goals and pulling away with a 6-point lead at half time. The movement and passing was impressive with our forwards working exceptionally hard despite the heat and robbing some ball in the Clann Mhuire half. These acts of robbery resulted in scores. It took time to manage the Clann Mhuire kickout as they had a very talented no 8 picking up the bulk of the kick outs. Roisin Crowe was set to manage her and did so with determination and class. Going forward we might nick name her the fire extinguisher as the danger from the firey no 8 abated. We continued to dominate the game and won the second half as well. All 6 forwards scored from play! The Clann Mhuire team were dangerous, and it took resilience and focus to close the game out. Any dropping of the first half high standards would have resulted in a comeback. With no subs this was a titanic effort as the sun continued to boil the air.

It was Grace Dent’s 1st time to captain a BSJ team and she maintains a 100% record! As ever Grace played magnificently with three goals and six points. Captain Fantastic led by her actions. There was an impressive debut for Katie Moran Tighe and she celebrated with a beautifully taken score. Emily Naughton played through pain of hand injury, making two “Cluxtonesque” saves along the way.Niamh Sweeney was also carrying a wrist injury and battled on. Well done on a great performance to Luisagh Guerrine just back from injury. It was an unreal effort from one and all. Thanks to Caoimhe Brennan and Katie MT for helping out for the penalties!  Thanks for super support from Christine McCambridge and from Katie MT for the squad. Also, thanks to our official best supporter Conor Dent and he made the team photo!  Finally thanks to mentors, physio and support team, a very dedicated gang,
