BSJ  3-18 Lucan Sarsfield 2-10

Hat trick for BSJ Ladies Football Team!

St John, the son of Zebadee and Salome, worked his magic last night as it was three out of three for the BSJ ladies senior teams! Victory for the senior ladies and the Junior A team and Junior B team. The Junior B team won by a point in a game where the lead swung back and forth like the pendulum on a grandfather clock. It ended BSJ 2-10 Olafs 1-12 in Páirc Uí Bhriain. The Junior A team came out on top by 5-10 to 4-7 in a very entertaining encounter with Trinity Gaels in Marlay Park. All three teams were featured minor players playing up. It is encouraging to see our up and coming minor players supporting our adult teams and holding their own at adult level.

Senior Team

A overcast night for the BSJ senior ladies gaelic football match against Lucan Sarsfield.  After the two week break it was good to be back on the pitch and with lots of minor players on display, the future looks very bright.

The first 15 minutes was a masterclass from by BSJ as backs, mids and  forwards combined to create numerous scoring chances where  possession was skilfully translating into points. We were suddenly 5 points to zero up and we were looking very strong. In fairness to Sarsfield they had their chances but they were not allowed to not take them with some great defence and brilliant goalkeeping. Their forwards were deprived of space and when they had a chance they were closed down immediately. By half time we were 1 08 and we had restricted Lucan to only 4 points. A good lead.

In the second half Lucan came out like the Cork Hurlers against Limerick in the semi-final in Croke Park. They blitzed us and within ten minutes had  scored a goal and 2 points. Our big lead was lead reduced to only 2 points. The coaches were keen to give the subs a run and the new players came on and made an impression. Soon we were 2-10 to 1 06. Lucan were far more dangerous in this half and we needed to dig deep and take control of the game. We did that and soon we were 2-13 to 1-08. As soon as we began to relax Lucan came at us again and the deficit was soon back to just 4 points. In the final quarter the BSJ ladies turned on the burners and left Lucan chasing shadows with a 3 18 to 2 10 win. Very impressive tally from a team that is learning to convert their possession into points. Some of the finishing was bringing back memories of Cora Staunton when she used to torment the Dublin ladies.

A photo of the 6 minor players was taken to welcome them to the senior squad. A great night in Marley as a long que of BSJ parents and players cars left the clubhouse feeling very satisfied.  Bring on the next game.
