Senior Hurling

League Match away to Fingallians Saturday April 6th.

The Senior Hurlers continued their unbeaten start to their league campaign with a 2-12 to 0-12 win away to Fingallians on Saturday evening. Played in blustery conditions, BSJ played into the wind in the first half and a great defensive effort kept Fingallians to 7 points. A goal on the stroke of half time by Tom Aherne left the half-time score at Fingallians 0-07 and BSJ 1-03. Playing with the breeze in the 2nd half BSJ got on top and kept the scoreboard ticking over before a 2nd Tom Aherne goal put some daylight between the teams. The final score was 2-12 to 0-12 in favour of BSJ and despite picking up a nasty injury scoring his 1st goal Tom Aherne kept playing and finished with a tally of 2-08 (0-5 frees). Also on the scoreboard were Seamus Fenton 0-2, Rob Aherne (0-1) and Cody Graham (0-1). Next up for the Seniors in the league is a home match on April 20th vs Whitehall Colmcille.

Junior A Hurling

League Match home to Thomas Davis Sunday April 7th.

Ballinteer 1-11 Thomas Davis 1-22

Ballinteer St John's Junior B Hurlers welcomed Thomas Davis to Pitch 2 in Marley Park last Sunday where they suffered a 1-11 to 1-22 defeat in what was an end to end battle for most of the game.

Thomas Davis got off to a strong start securing two unanswered points in the opening 5 minutes, asserting their scoring abilities from the off.

In the opening quarter, contributions from Ballinteer's Fionn O'Riordan and Ewen Wells were noteworthy, yet it was Pádraig Ó hEither's excellently taken goal that proved pivotal for the home side, shifting the momentum, settling Ballinteer and bringing them back into contention.

The early introduction of Diarmuid O'Connor in the opening 10 minutes following a strain in the ham string of Ballinteer's number 8, Killian Ryle, allowed O'Connor to postively influence the run of play, delivering an excellent crossfield pass to corner forward Daire Ronayne, running on to the ball at great pace, to convert a score to keep BSJ in the runnings.

Persistent, Thomas Davis kept the score board ticking as the half time mark approached. Representing the parish at wing forward was Fionn O'Riordan who racked up a personal tally of 4 points on the day, two coming late in the second half that brought Ballinteer within two points at the interval.

Playing up hill in the second half, struggling with a strong crossfield wind, Andrew Aherne, Brian Quinn and Cormac O'Dwyer battled it out in defense, clearing every ball they could out of harm's way.

Further contributions from Cian Barry (0-2), Fionn O'Riordan (0-1) Daire Ronayne (0-1) and a further two scores from Ó'hEithir from free's brought the sides level, keeping spirits high on the home sideline momentarily, but Thomas Davis proved formidable, utilizing their downhill advantage tapping over scores from all over the pitch.

Ballinteer kept their heads above water for most of the game, keeping themselves within three points for the majority of the game before Davis put the game to bed in the final few minutes.

The Dublin 24 outfit mounted the pressure with some late scores and a single goal past goalkeeper Paddy Buckley to see off Ballinteer, securing all two points.

A game they will hope to put behind them as Ballinteer's Junior B's look to their next league game where they face Wild Geese on April 21st.

Junior B Hurling

League Match at home to Kilmacud Crokes Sunday April 7th.

The Junior B Hurlers came out on the right side of a tight match on a 1-14 to 3-07 score line to get back to winning ways. The games on P2 started in blustery sunny conditions with some heavy showers in the 2nd half. Playing with the wind in the first half BSJ got off to a fast start with 4 different scorers contributing our 1st 4 points. BSJ led by 1-09 to 1-04 at half time with a goal from Michael Collins. BSJ continued to play well in the 2nd half playing into the breeze and stretched the lead out to 7 points before withstanding some late pressure from Crokes to finish with a 1-point win by 1-14 to 3-07. Scorers for BSJ were Conor Murphy (0-06), Michael Collins (1-0), Sean Murphy (0-01), Oisin Chambers (0-03), Luaiadh Lynch (0-03), Eoghan Coffey (0-01)
