Dublin Ladies GO AHEAD Cup Div 2 BSJ 3-11 Templogue Synge Street 2-06
Dominant Display in the End A beautiful sunny and warm night in Marley Park for the BSJ ladies Gaelic football match against Templeogue Synge Street. All the BSJ pitches were in use with kids galore, sliotars, bibs, hurls and footballs in view with the Dublin mountains as the backdrop. The main pitch was in immaculate condition with only one challenge, how to retrieve footballs going over the concert fencing? We thought about asking the respective teams to only go for goals when playing that direction but well-done to Paul Leahy who solved the riddle and got access. The Ballinteer ladies came into the game in a confident mood after a good victory away to Clann Mhuire the previous week (on another sunny evening in the Naul) scoring an impressive 5 goals tally on the night. Final score was 5-06 to 2-09. The whistle blew and BSJ came charging out of the blocks and led by 1-03 without reply within 8 minutes. Our forwards were causing mayhem in the TSST defence, but Synge Street are too good a team to fade and soon came back into it with a purple patch of their own scoring 1-02 in the process. It’s fair to say BSJ left some good chances after them so definitely an opportunity for some training ground homework! At the half time break there was little to choose between the teams with BSJ holding a slender 2-point lead. BSJ stretched the lead into the second half with a third goal putting clear daylight between the sides and over the hour were the better team. At times we played beautiful passing football and left the opposition chasing shadows. We scored 3 excellent goals and pulled away in the last quarter not letting Synge Street out of their own half. Our defence had to put in a big shift in the second half keeping some speedy Synge Street midfielders and forwards at bay. Overall a super performance from this talented bunch and a deserved victory over a good Synge Street outfit. Also great to see a few of the Leaving Cert ladies back too (thank God that’s almost over!). To finish a big shout out to Emma Reddan who played her first senior game and was very impressive in general play and getting on the score sheet too. Emma has also represented the club with the Dublin U16 panel, and the group were delighted to welcome her for her first game. Well done to all our players on the night 1Roisin, 2Eibhlin, 3 Derbhla, 4 Caitriona, 5 Emily, 6 Alana, 7 Anu, 8 Lauren, 9 Kate, 10 Ruth, 11 Katie, 12 Hazel, 13 Orla, 14 Niamh, 15 Lisa, 16 Isabelle, 17 Luisagh, 18 Emma
