ADULT CAMOGIE ROUNDUP (Senior, Intermediate and Junior)

Week ending 06/05/23

Senior 1 League

The senior team made it a hat-trick of wins in their Dublin Camogie Division 1 league campaign.

John’s beat Castleknock 1-15 to 2-8 to take themselves fifth in the table after six rounds of games.

BSJ looked well in control at half time in this encounter in Marlay Park, having chalked up 11 points – seven from play - with some attractive free-flowing camogie.

A breakaway goal kept Castleknock in touch on a scoreboard that read 0-11 to 1-3 at the break despite the home team dominating much of the play.

That set the stage for a tenser second half than the good home support anticipated.

A second goal for the visitors saw them wipe out the half time lead and pull level.

With the game in the balance going down the final stretch a goal from Ballinteer corner forward Emma Johnson and some excellent work from Aoife Kelly helped seal a win and two valuable points in a congested Division 1 table.

Johns have two games remaining with a tough trip northside to top of the table St Vincents next up on Tuesday 9th May.

Intermediate 2 League

On one of those leaden sky days when daylight never seemed to break, BSJ Inters battled both the elements and a tough CBC Portobello side to record their third win of the league.

A rain sodden Pitch 2 in Marlay Park could’ve done with floodlights for the slightly delayed 7.30pm throw-in.

By the finish the fading light and worsening conditions made some of the BSJ play even more impressive.

An improving CBC came on the back of a win over Crokes, while Ballinteer were looking to back up their best performance of the campaign so far after an away win against Naomh Olaf in the previous round.

But it was Johns who took up where they left off in Sandyford with some strong running and excellent passing putting the CBC defence under all sorts of pressure from the start.

In the awful conditions the fight for possession was critical and energy-sapping for both sets of players.

Ballinteer won the ground war for those dirty balls, supplying the ammunition for an outstanding forward unit on the night to rack up 15 quality scores in a rainstorm.

There were scorers across the pitch with huge displays from an impressive inside forward line of Fiona Hayes, Lisa Webster and Eve O’Callaghan.

This is a developing squad and it was great to see some younger players come in and make a telling contribution to finish the job on the night for a 4-11 to 2-6 win.

Next up for BSJ Inters is the final round of the league at home to Naomh Maur in Marlay Park on Thursday 11th May at 7.30pm.

Junior 5 League

BSJ Juniors are sitting third in the Junior 5 adult camogie league with one round of games left to play.

Johns were awarded the points this week following a walkover after Good Counsel conceded the tie.

Next up for our Junior camogie players is an away trip to second placed Thomas Davis on Thursday 11th May.
