Adult and Minor Hurling 9th / 10th May 2023.

Senior (AHL)

Our seniors took on Thomas Davis in Marlay on Wednesday 10th. 1-12 to 1-7 up at half time BSJ were looking good, but had left a few handy scores behind, hopefully it wouldn't come back to bite ... well it nearly did. BSJ got the first point of the second half but TD got two opportune goals, and now it was game on. Every time BSJ looked like pulling away TD brought it back to a couple of points. As it went into injury time BSJ were four up, TD got a free, outside the 21, but had to go for goal which they did successfully. It was a very nervy finish. When the ref blew the final whistle, BSJ were one up at 2-19 to 4-12, with the mood on the line one of relief.

Next game away v Setanta on Saturday 13/5/23.

Junior A (AHL5)

A very good game of hurling was played out on Tues. 9th May in Marley. Ending in a draw after Cormac Fenton pointed with the last attack of the game. Once again, some great saves from Paddy Buckly kept us in contention. Outstanding contribution from Dylan Bannon who got most of the BSJ scores. Big thank you to minors Cody, Cillian and Dylan who all had a big impact on the game. And a debut appearance for Eoghan O’Connor, who recently joined the club.  Final score BSJ 0-14 to Na Fianna 1-11.

Next game away this Sunday 14th v St. Pat’s (P)

Junior B (AHL8)

On a damp Tuesday May 9th Ballinteer St Johns 3rd Snr hurling team made the trek to Collinstown Lane for a 7/15pm throw in v Na Fianna. With a panel of 17 players we took on the men in yellow and blue with a first half wind advantage. Solid displays at the back from Ray Redmond and Luke Ennis with hard work from Barry McCarton and Dylan Fluck left the Ballinteer lads with a 1.11 to 0.5 lead at half time. Key to this lead was a great penalty save by Shane Corley just before half time. The second half took off well for the BSJ lads with two accurate frees from Conor Murphy however NA Fianna replied with the next three scores. Hard work and key possession by John Cleary supported by Niall Slattery and Barry McCarton ensured victory.  Seanie Lane was accurate with his point scoring which left the final result of a win for the Ballinteer men of 1.17 to 0.10.

Big challenge this Sunday May 14th at home to St. Vincent's at 11am.

Minor and U16

Our Minor A's had a great result against Whitehall last Sunday, BSJ 2-11 to 0-14. Our lads opened up very well 1-9 to 0-7 in the first half. The second half proved different with Whitehall aided by the breeze coming back and with 15min to go it was 1-14 t0 0-14. Our lads stood up from there scoring 1-5 without reply. Dylan Bannan was outstanding, scoring a fantastic goal in the first half and some long range points. James Bates when it mattered scored 1-1 and Cormac Fenton scored 2 fantastic points in those last 15 crucial minutes. Sean Ryan, Eamonn Naughton, Cillian Gibbons and Cody Graham were outstanding at the back with midfielders Sean McGee and Rian Coote working tirelessly for the cause.

Our second minor team were playing table toppers Castleknockand lost 1-17 to 0-7. After a bright start Castleknock got on top and were 8pts clear at half time. Our lads gave everything but were beaten by the better team. Best for Ballinteer were Oisin Daffy, Sean Kelly and Eoin Madigan.

Our U16's had a great win v Vincent's last week. Well done lads the future's looking good.

Thank you to Enda O’Dwyer for the match reports!
